Fanbyviken - Norrbyskär

Vid slutet av 1800-talet hade Norrbyskär Europas största ångdrivna sågverk. Vid den här tiden levde ca 1400 människor där. År 1952 lades sågverket ner och ön blev tyst och stilla. I dag finns på ön ett museum som visar hur människorna levde och arbetade där. I mangårdsbyggnaden är det i dag hotell och restaurang.

Around the end of the 19th century Norrbyskär had Europe´s largest steam-powered sawmill. Today  there is a museum where you can learn of the island´s sawmill past. You will find an exhibition which puts you in touch with the lives of the 1400 people who lived and worked on the island a long time ago, but in 1952 the sawmill was shutdown and the island fell quiet. Norrbyskär´s inn and restaurant are located in the beautiful mansion house that, during the sawmill era, was home to the mill manager.
